Lakefront Living in Highlands County

Whether you are looking for a quaint fishing cabin, a winter lakeside retreat or a luxury lakefront home let me help you find your perfect lake home.  There is a lakefront property for every budget.  I am the Realtor who is your lakefront expert and will help you navigate your way through our 80+ named lakes in Highlands County.  You may ask, “what makes me a lake expert?”   The answer to that question is, I love and live the lifestyle on one of Highlands County’s  premier lakes.  I boat, fish, swim, paddle board and kayak.  Nobody knows lakefront living better than someone who lives and loves the lake home ownership lifestyle and calls the lake home.   Our beautiful lake neighborhoods and communities offer homeowners some of the finest fishing, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, wake boarding, and tubing in all of Florida.  It is no wonder, so many buyers choose Highlands County from South Florida, out of state or from around the world.

Here is a recap of some of the larger lakes in Highlands County.  For all other lakes you can view the map and chart which give the size and depth of the lake and whether it is a ridge (sand bottom) or muck lake.  Or just give me a call or shoot an email and I it will be my pleasure to answer any lake questions you may have.

Lake Istokpoga

Lake Istokpoga is larger than all the lakes in Highlands County combined and is located in Sebring, Lorida, and Lake Placid.  It is known as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the United States.  Several local guides have made a career for many years guiding on the lake.  The lake is very large with 27,692 acres and is a relatively shallow water lake that is the perfect home to Large Mouth Bass and several other freshwater fish including Specs. The aquatic vegetation in the lake make  a great fish habitat.  Public access to the lake is provided by four public boat ramps and several private ramps.  Two of the ramps have been provided with large parking areas next to the ramp.  Istokpoga Park, has docks and boardwalks for lakeside fishing.

Because of the quality of fishing on the lake, dozens of fishing tournaments are held on Lake Istokpoga each year.  The lake also provides great hunting areas for waterfowl during the winter months.

Homes on Lake Istokpoga range from mobile homes, modest homes, custom homes and luxury homes.  Many canals lead into Lake Istokpoga and provide less expensive waterfront alternatives when purchasing a home.

    Lake Jackson

The City of Sebring was developed around Lake Jackson.  This 3,412 acre sand bottom lake has excellent water quality for fishing and a variety of waters sports and activities.  Lake Jackson has over 20’ depths.  While almost completely developed around, the lake still has some undisturbed shorelines which are perfect fishing areas.  Unlike many developed lakes, the water quality of Lake Jackson has continued to improve over the last thirty years.  Public beach access is provided by City parks on the east and west sides of the lake.  Veterans Beach has a public boat ramp on the west side of the lake.  There is a continuous 10 mile walking and biking trail around the lake.  Numerous biking, swimming and running events are held on and around the lake throughout the year.  Lake Jackson has beautiful luxury estate homes, custom homes and modest homes around the lake.  When homes come on the market they sell quickly.  It will be my pleasure to put you on my immediate notification list as soon as a home hits the market.

Lake Lotela

Lake Lotela is Avon Park’s largest lake with a little over 800 acres.  It is a sand bottom lake and tucked away on the southeast of the City of Avon Park.  Parts of the lake are inside the city limits.  The lake is lined with homes along the shoreline but the lake has very little run-off so the water quality remains very good.  You will enjoy good fishing on the lake.  The lake has two public boat ramps, one on the west side of the lake and the other is on the south side.  Most activity on the lake is from homeowners with very little public activity.   This is why Lake Lotela is considered one of Highlands County’s best kept secret.  Homeowners on the east side of the lake are unique as they have lakefront out their back door and historic Pinecrest Golf Course out their front door.  Many of the estate homes around the lake are owned by pioneer families of Highlands County.
